Below the Audio Input and Audio Output Status on devices running Different OS versions. The Table discusses only the Dock Connector Audio pins, not the headset pins!

Now the Easy Hack: Two ways to activate Line Out on iPhone with OS 1.x and OS2.x:
1) short-circuit the following three Pins: 30, 29 (Audio Gnds) and 20 (Audio Accessory Mode), or
2) connect a 10k resistor between Pins 30 (Audio Gnd) and 20 (Audio Accessory Mode).
NOTE1: Tested only with OS.2.1 so feedback on other OS is welcome.
NOTE2: We index the DockConn pins from Right to left. Ie, if you hold the iPod in Front of you, with the display upwards, and Dock Conn at the bottom, THEN the right most pin is nr.1, left most is nr 30.

Im guessing the 2G(1ST Gen). There is only a 1st Gen(2G) and 2nd Gen(3G) iPhone.

@lozion: ok, but we need first some feedback from users about the status on those two devices you mention, mainly if the same trick works for Line-Out activation.

For 1st Gen iPod Touch with OS2.2 running, anyone know of some headsets w/mics that have the approved HW lock and activate the Audio Input? If not, anyone know of some headsets w/mics that activate Audio Input through headset jack?

johnny, i doubt there is a way to get audio-in through the headset on 1G Touch. regarding the dock conn, the easiest would be to use a commercial “signed” mic, open it, get the wire into the headset cable… not an elegant hack, maybe apple reconsider the audio lock before we move on to Maemo/ Android / OpenMoko, etc…

I am very currious. I’ve been looking again an again on the web for iPhone accessories. Usually the only thing I can find is something that sends line-out to either boom-box or FM transmitter.
1.) Where did you saw mention that there was indeed as of now, line-in accessories for iPhone?
2.) Are both iPhone 1st Gen. and iPhone 3G capable or recording using the line-in?
3.) Can you share any links to anything relevant to this HW Lock or accessorries???
Thank you.
