Build a Headset
The first headset for the 1st generation iPod Touch was built by Dozy, an audio hacker from Japan. He published the headset back in Spring 2008, much-much before apple came with the white headsets for the 2nd generation Touch. Dozy’s personal page showing the first prototype is here.

Some details:
The headset is based on a Stereo Headphone amplifier MAX9724A. The 1st channel is used as the headphone amplifier, while the 2nd one as microphone amplifier. The amplifier gain is set to 1000.
Build your own one..
